Current/Future Projects
Pioneering Affordable Homeownership is a three-year
initiative designed to proactively respond to concerns about the lack of
affordable homeownership opportunities available to working families in DuPage
County. Through the development of a "profile neighborhood" (Pioneer Prairie)
in West Chicago, DuPage Habitat offers community leaders the opportunity to
support the expansion of homeownership options for working families in DuPage
County.
The cornerstone of the initiative will be Pioneer Prairie
- a residential subdivision of 11 detached, single-family homes in West
Chicago. The 3-acre neighborhood is located at the intersection of Sherman
and Pomeroy Streets and named for its proximity to Pioneer School. Along
with the new homes, DuPage Habitat will develop the neighborhood, including
sidewalks, parkway trees and streetscapes. In addition, 5 homes will be
built or rehabilitated in targeted DuPage areas. The total project cost for
Pioneer Prairie and the scattered site homes is $4 million.
Over the next three years, DuPage Habitat will be reaching out to the
community to educate all about the need for workforce housing in DuPage and
the Habitat for Humanity solution, and to engage a broad spectrum of
partners in this initiative. This outreach effort will target the 400 plus
churches and faith-based groups in DuPage, corporations and businesses,
civic groups and individuals. Many have joined with us already, and the
Pioneering Affordable Homeownership
leadership team
continues to grow.
Over the course of the 30-year mortgages created through this initiative,
Pioneering Affordable Homeownership will have a positive economic impact in
DuPage County of over $5 million.
