- Group volunteers participate in the building of homes at all stages of construction from laying floor joists to installing
a ceiling to slapping on that last coat of paint!
- DuPage Habitat projects include both single-family homes and townhouses.
- Sponsoring groups are assigned to a rehab or new build based on need and availability.
Workday Guidelines
- DuPage Habitat builds on Thursdays and Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
- No experience or tools are required. Training will occur on-site under the supervision of a DuPage Habitat Site Supervisor or Crew Leader.
- For safety reasons, volunteers age 16 and 17 must be accompanied by a parent.
- Children under the age of 16 are not allowed on construction sites. For volunteer

Partnering with DuPage Habitat
We are extremely grateful for our volunteers who donate their time. However, we also
need to raise funds in order to cover the cost of land acquisition, building materials and
site supervision. DuPage Habitat depends on the financial support ofvolunteer groups to help defray the rising
cost of construction. A donation corresponding to your level of participation is vital to Habitat’s mission of
making decent, affordable shelter for all people a reality.

A Brush With Kindness is a home restoration program that helps keep families in homes when they are having a difficult time
keeping up with required maintenance. Homeowners served by A Brush With Kindness are often elderly or disabled, and on a fixed income.
Working with neighborhood organizations, we help identify properties that qualify for the program. The family applies and once accepted,
works alongside the volunteers on the project.
Benefits of A Brush With Kindness:
- Preserving homeownership means owners can stay in their homes, which strengthens neighborhoods.
- When you help keep a family in their home, your restoration efforts may take only a few days, but make an immediate impact.
- When a house turns into the pride of the street, it becomes a catalyst for a whole neighborhood turnaround.
Activities and Time Commitment:
Projects include repair, painting and some minor landscapingand can be completed in 2 to 5 days.Depending on the size of the project,
up to 10 volunteers per day may participate.
Sponsorship:

DuPage Habitat ReStore is a retail outlet where donated used and surplus household and construction materials are sold to the
general public at reduced prices. All profitfrom ReStoresales help fundDuPage Habitat’s mission which is to provide opportunities

Benefits:
Across the country, Habitat for Humanity ReStores:
- Help build homes while lettinghomeowners cut their project costs through the purchase
of low-cost building materials and fixtures.
- Provide manufacturers with a constructive way to dispose of overstock and discontinued
items, thus keeping quality construction materials out of landfills.
- Empower community members to protect the environment through the collection and re-
use of household materials.
Activities:
ReStore inventory needs to be counted, sorted, priced and displayed. If your group volunteers at ReStore, you may do any of these things.
It takes a lot of hands to do this work which takes place year-round in a climate controlled environment.Volunteers must be at least
16 years old to volunteer alone at the ReStore. 14-15 year olds would be allowed to volunteer if they are accompanied by an adult.
Time Commitment:
Volunteer shifts are a minimum of a half day. Volunteer work hours are:
- Wednesday through Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
- Saturdays between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
